Hearts of Oak slapped with fresh transfer ban over unpaid compensation to former player, Francis Adjetey

Hearts of Oak have been slapped with a fresh transfer ban, just days after resolving a separate financial dispute that led to the lifting of a previous sanction.

The latest embargo, imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), comes after the club failed to meet a July 7, 2025 deadline to pay over GHS 106,000 to former player Francis Adjetey.

The payment had been mandated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), whose ruling was enforced by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee on June 24, 2025.

Per the CAS decision, the Phobians were required to pay GHS 106,477.42, along with 5% annual interest backdated to September 15, 2023, and an additional $1,250 in legal costs.

According to reports from JoySports, Hearts of Oak requested to pay the sum in three instalments, proposing July 11, 2025, as the first payment date. However, Adjetey declined the offer and insisted on a full payment upfront.

This development mirrors a recent standoff with New Edubiase United, who had sought $70,000 from Hearts—$50,000 from the transfer of Salim Adams and $20,000 related to a failed deal with MLS side FC Cincinnati.

After missing a May 31 deadline, the GFA imposed a transfer ban that was only lifted after Hearts paid a revised settlement of $38,000.

Despite continued efforts by the club’s Managing Director, Delali Anku Adiamah, to reach a new agreement with Adjetey, no resolution had been reached as of Wednesday, July 9.

The new transfer ban will remain in force until Hearts of Oak pay the full outstanding amount.
