2025 Unity Cup: Abdul Salis Samed, five others make Black Stars return
Felix Afena-Gyan, Abdul Samed Salis, and Kwame Opoku are among six players making a comeback to the Black Stars, having been named in coach Otto Addo’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.
This marks Afena-Gyan’s first return to the national team since 2022. Midfielder Salis Samed is also back in the squad after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Kwame Opoku, who has been in fine form for Asante Kotoko since his return from Algerian side USM Alger—scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances—earns a recall.
He last featured for Ghana in a 2021 World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg and will be targeting his fourth international cap.
Also rejoining the squad is defender Stephan Ambrosius, currently playing for Swiss outfit St. Gallen. Ambrosius made his debut for Ghana in a friendly against Liberia in September 2023.
Ghana will face Nigeria in a semi-final showdown at the GTech Community Stadium in West London on Wednesday, May 28.
The winner will progress to the final of the Unity Cup to take on either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in September with crucial Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures against Chad and Mali, as they aim to continue their strong push for qualification.
