Face-saving mission for Meteors
Ghana would attempt a face-saving act today when the male Olympic team, the Black Meteors play their last group game in their failed bid for a medal at the All Africa Games.
After two successive defeats in Group A which completely rules Ghana out of a place in the last four and any hopes of landing a medal, the Black Meteors would need a win over Tunisia which would certainly restore some hope for the future as they bow out from the games.
The Tunisians, who lie top on the table, are hoping to consolidate their position as qualification from the group remains open among the top three sides which also includes defending champions, Cameroon and South Africa.
And Ghana could be the team that would spoil the hopes of the North African side at the Rouiba stadium. The other group fixture pairs Cameroon with South Africa.
Black Meteors coach, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio would reshuffle his central defence as two of his regulars – Bawa Mumuni and Stephen Ofei, were both shown the red card in Ghana's last game which ended in a 2-0 defeat to South Africa.
The defeat on Friday dashed Ghana's hopes of reaching the next round of the men's football competition at the 9th All Africa Games as the Black Meteors; bronze medallist in the last edition effectively ended their medal hopes.
The All Africa Games, which represents Africa's version of the Olympic Games draws lots of countries to participate in a host of sporting events is been hosted by Algeria for the second time after 1978.
