Asante Kotoko resign striker Kwame Opoku on a two-and-a-half-year deal
Asante Kotoko has confirmed the return of striker Kwame Opoku on a two-year contract, subject to medical and international transfer clearance.
The 27-year-old marks his comeback to the Porcupine Warriors after a standout performance during the 2020/21 season, where he netted six goals and recorded three assists in just 16 matches.
Opoku's stellar form previously secured him moves to Algerian giants USM Alger and later Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga. Now back at Kotoko, he will don the number 31 jersey as he aims to bolster the team’s attacking lineup.
His return is seen as a critical boost for Kotoko, who have faced challenges in front of goal this season. The team has managed only 10 goals in 12 league matches, with top scorer Albert Amoah contributing six of those. Amoah’s absence due to injury has left a significant void, amplifying the importance of Opoku’s arrival.
The striker had been training with the squad for several weeks but had to wait for the second transfer window to open and his registration to be finalized before officially rejoining the team.
