2025 AFCON Qualifiers: It will be disappointing if Ghana doesn’t qualify – West Ham striker Michail Antonio
West Ham United striker, Michail Antonio says it will be a disappointment should Ghana fail to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Ghana's hope of playing at the AFCON tournament in Morocco now hangs on a thread after amassing just two points after four games.
Antonio, speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, expressed surprise at Ghana's plight, given the nation's proud footballing history.
“Ghana hasn’t qualified for the AFCON?” Antonio responded with surprise.
“It’s very disappointing, but to be fair, Ghana is going through a transition right now. New players are coming in, trying to rediscover the philosophy they used to have, the quality that Ghana used to have to be fair, they still have some quality now.”
Ghana’s qualification hopes remain alive, but their fate is now out of their hands.
Following Niger’s 4-0 victory over Sudan, the Black Stars must secure a win against Angola’s Palancas Negras at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in their next match to keep their hopes alive.
The current standings leave Ghana with a tough road ahead. They are 12 points behind group leaders Angola, five behind second-placed Sudan, and two adrift of third-place Niger.
