2025 AFCON Qualifiers: It is unfortunate Otto Addo is in a difficult situation, says Angola coach Pedro Goncalves
Angola head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has expressed support for Ghana’s under-pressure head coach, Otto Addo, as Ghana faces a potential failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Otto Addo has yet to secure a victory in the qualifiers, with Ghana currently third in Group F, holding just two points from four games.
This position places them ten points behind Angola and five points behind Sudan, meaning Ghana’s chances of reaching the tournament in Morocco next year now depend on the outcomes of Sudan’s final games against Niger and Angola.
To keep their qualification hopes alive, the Black Stars must win both of their remaining matches while hoping that Sudan drops points in theirs.
Ahead of their Matchday 5 encounter on Friday at Estádio 11 de Novembro, Goncalves commended Addo’s efforts, telling Ghanasportspage.com, "Ghana is a country of football, and I grew up watching the Black Stars with big names,” Goncalves told Ghanasportspage.com “They have wonderful players worldwide, including Europe and Portugal. But unfortunately, they’re not in the best moment now.
