Champions League: Mohammed Salisu scores as AS Monaco grab vital point at Dinamo Zagreb

Ghana international Mohammed Salisu played a pivotal role as AS Monaco fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Dinamo Zagreb in an exciting UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Salisu, who started as a defender for Monaco, battled tough weather conditions, including heavy rain at Stadion Maksimir, which affected play throughout the match.

Dinamo Zagreb took control just before halftime, with Petar Sucic breaking the deadlock in the 44th minute, assisted by Martin Baturina. Despite the challenging conditions, Dinamo maintained their 1-0 lead going into the break.

Monaco returned to the field with determination in the second half, pressing hard for an equalizer. However, Zagreb extended their advantage in the 66th minute, courtesy of another brilliant setup from Baturina.

Undeterred, Monaco responded in the 76th minute when Mohammed Salisu powered home a header to reduce the deficit, sparking hopes of a comeback. The French side continued to press, and in the final moments, captain Dennis Zakaria calmly converted a penalty to salvage a crucial point.

Salisu’s strong performance will be key as Monaco prepares to face Rennes at Roazhon Park on Saturday. He will then join the Black Stars camp for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan later this month.
