2024 elections: ‘I’m politically neutral henceforth’ — Asamoah Gyan ‘dumps’ NPP

Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his vision to empower the country's youth through sports and philanthropy initiatives, outside of any political affiliation.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 11, Gyan outlined his goals through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation and partnerships with other organizations to develop sports academies, training centers and mentorship programs across Ghana.

"Sports saved me and gave me purpose. Its power goes beyond winning or losing-it's about overcoming setbacks, pushing through challenges, and believing in dreams. I want every young person, no matter their background, to have that same opportunity to realize their greatness," Gyan stated.

Through a holistic approach emphasizing education, character building and life skills, the former Sunderland forward said his vision is to nurture young talent and prepare them for success beyond their sporting careers.

"This mission is about hope and opening doors for those who feel left behind, giving them the belief that their dreams are possible," he noted.

Notably, Gyan stressed that his initiatives are "not about politics" and that he remains "fully independent from political influence."

This comes after the former Black Stars captain previously served on the manifesto committee for youth and sports of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

However, through his statement, the 38-year-old has strongly vowed his commitment to political neutrality going forward.
