African Games: Benjamin Azamati fails to win gold, finishes fifth in Men's 100m final

In the Men's 100m final at the 2023 African Games held on March 19, 2024, Ghana's sprint sensation, Benjamin Azamati, clinched fifth place.

The race was won by Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme, who had outpaced Azamati in the semi-final, securing victory with a swift time of 10.14 seconds.

Nigeria's Itsekiri Usheoritse seized the second spot on the podium, crossing the finish line in 10.23 seconds, while Namibia's Gilbert Hainuca secured the bronze medal with a time of 10.29 seconds.

Despite a valiant effort, Azamati fell short of a podium finish, clocking in at 10.45 seconds. His compatriot, Aggerh Barnabas, also missed out on a medal, posting a time of 10.50 seconds.

Azamati hinted at encountering a hip flexor issue after his less-than-ideal performance in the semi-final, stating, "Not the perfect race for me, I feel like I didn't execute well but I will go sit with my coach and talk about it. I had a little bit of a tight hip flexor. I think I'll go back and see the physio to work on that and see how we can do tomorrow." He finished the race with a time of 10.41 seconds.

In another event, Ghana's Mary Boakey finished 7th in the Women's 100m race, missing out on a medal opportunity.
