Professor Peter Twumasi sacked as NSA Director General
The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has been dismissed from his position.
The specific reasons for his removal have not yet been disclosed. However, Mr. Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed as the Acting Director General of the Authority in the interim.
Prof. Twumasi faced mounting criticism for his management of various state-owned stadia. Concerns have been raised about the inadequate maintenance and operations of these facilities during his tenure.
One significant incident that fueled public outcry occurred when the Accra Sports Stadium was unexpectedly closed during the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season to host musical events.
This decision forced several football clubs, including Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Great Olympics, to relocate their matches from Accra.
The pressure on Prof. Twumasi intensified further after his unsuccessful attempt to secure the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nomination as a parliamentary candidate for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
He suffered a decisive defeat in the NPP Primaries for the Ahafo Ano South West constituency, with Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah emerging as the clear winner.
The combination of these factors ultimately led to Prof. Twumasi's dismissal from his role as Director General of the NSA.
