Ghanaian heavyweight boxer, Braimah Kamoko known in the sporting world as Bukom Banku has officially announced his retirement from the game at the age of 43.

Born in Bukom, a suburb in Ghana’s capital Accra on August 17, 1980, Braimah Kamoko’s only defeat in his career that spanned over two decades came in 2017 when he lost to Bastie Samir.

Young Bukom Banku first announced his presence to the boxing world in 1999 after winning the bronze in the Heavyweight division in the All African Games in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 1999.

Announcing his retirement in an interview with Accra-based Hello FM, Bukom Banku cited old age and physical body changes as his reason to quit the sport which requires a lot of physical strength.

“I’m now grown and at the same time my eye is also paining me, so I don’t want to fight again,” the boxer stated.

He added that thought he has retired; he will guide his three children who are all aspiring boxers to achieve greater success.

“I have three children and my children are also fighting boxing, so I leave everything to them. I leave my gloves to Abu Kamoko and Mustapha Kamoko to fight on. I’ve already prepared the road so they can continue my name. Where I couldn’t reach in boxing, maybe they can reach there. So officially I’ve quit boxing.”

In 30 bouts, Bukom Banku lost 1 and won 29 with 21 of his victories coming by way of Technical Knockout.
