Ghana target Nico Williams gets maiden Spain call-up

Spanish-born Ghanaian striker, Nico William has been named in Luis Enrique’s 25-man team for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Switzerland and Portugal in late September 2022.

After his senior brother, Inaki Williams completed his nationality switch to play for Ghanam it was expected Nico will follow the footsteps of his brother.

However, the promising winger joins an offensive Spanish National Team line up which has Sarabia, Marco Asensio, Morata, Borja Iglesias Yéremy Pino, and Ferrán Torres.

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and injured Raúl de Tomás of Rayo Vallecano miss out.

Nico debuted with Athletic Bilbao in April of last year against Valladolid and in less than a year and a half he is looking forward to his first bite of the cherry with the National Team.

He featured five times for the Spain U21 side and four times for Spain U18, scoring twice.

Group 2 leaders, Spain will play Switzerland on September 24 before wrapping up their Nations League A campaign against Portugal three days later.

Both Nico and Inaki are key players for Athletic Bilbao.
