WATCH: Goalkeeper Richmond Ayi’s heroics propels Hearts of Oak to MTN FA Cup quarter-finals

Hearts of Oak have qualified for the quarter-finals of this season’s MTN FA Cup competition thanks to the heroics of second-choice goalkeeper Richmond Ayi.

The shot-stopper was selected ahead of Richard Attah on Sunday night to feature in the Cup game against Elmina Sharks.

The game played at the Accra Sports Stadium served as a Round 16 meeting between the two Ghana Premier League clubs.

Courtesy of a dominating performance from the hosts, the Phobians managed to score first through a header from Isaac Mensah.

However, after failing to convert the additional chances that came the team’s way, Elmina Sharks made sure the hosts paid.

The visitors gradually crawled into the game and scored twice to turn the game on its head.

Unfortunately, Sharks also failed to get over the finish line with the 2-1 lead. A late penalty kick converted by Kofi Kordzi forced the game to end in a stalemate as the two teams resorted to the penalty shootout to decide who carries the day.

In the nervy and dramatic shootout, goalkeeper Richmond Ayi saved Hearts of Oak on countless occasions to ensure the Phobians brushed aside the Sharks to advance to the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
