Covid-19 Forces Cancelation Of 2020 CAF Awards
With the continent hit with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has decided to cancel the 2020 Awards ceremony.
The awards ceremony is held annually to reward sportsmen and women for their exceptional performance for clubs and national teams taking their individual contributions into account.
With yet another football season coming to an end, the football community on the continent has been looking forward to the next CAF awards ceremony which would have likely been staged in January 2021.
At an Executive Committee Meeting via video conferencing, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has announced that the upcoming awards ceremony has been canceled.
“Good afternoon to everyone and welcome to this press conference. I am particularly thinking about those whose families have been affected by the Corona Virus pandemic. We meet today from a distance. The last time we met was to celebrate the prestigious CAF Awards. Unfortunately, the next edition has been canceled”, he said.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament has been pushed to 2022 with this year’s Women’s Cup of Nations tournament being canceled.
