Sports Ministry To Spend Over $3 Million To Give Essipong Stadium A Facelift
Minister for the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has revealed that his outlet will be spending a total of US$3,086,206 on phase one of the renovation works on the Essipong Stadium.
The facility in Sekondi was inspected by the Minister and some top government officials on Tuesday to pave way for the commencement of renovations works due to its bad state.
Interacting with the media at the end of the inspection, Hon. Isaac Asiamah lamented over the poor state of the Essipong Stadium while stressing that there will be strict adherence to proper maintenance culture when the facelift is completed.
“After Essipong is brought back to life, the ministry will ensure religious maintenance culture, we will provide maintenance manuals for all the stadia that we are renovating. There is going to be strict adherence to maintenance culture here”, the Sports Minister indicated.
Phase One of the project will be undertaken by CISDAN Ltd as the contractors while Architectural and Engineering Services (AESL) Ltd sever as the Supervisors.
Works on the facility will see the removal and replacement of existing defect roofing sheets, replacement of damaged roof structural steel frame members, and bolts.
In addition, there will be corrosion protection works involving sandblasting to remove built-up rust and subsequently applying heavy-duty coating systems to guard against corrosion to metal structure from the Mid-West Stand to South Stand.
Other works will include, waterproof treatment applied to leak areas, repair of lift, fire-fighting system and air condition units, general renovation of offices, as well as plumbing works involving replacement of existing defective sanitary appliances.
The contractors are expected to complete the renovations works in 12 months' time.
