Davido Laments Weakening Bonds Among Afrobeats Artistes Despite Industry Growth
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reflected on the changing dynamics of the Nigerian music industry, noting that while the genre has become more financially rewarding, the bonds among artistes have weakened.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the 'Uncut Podcast', he shared his observations on the transformation of the music scene over the years.
Davido recalled that between 2012 and 2013, artistes would frequently gather in studios to support one another, creating a sense of unity that he says no longer exists.
The 'Feel' crooner' also cited his recording of 'Dami Duro' as an example of that era, when Wande Coal and several other artists were present in the studio with him. He, however, noted that such collaboration and closeness have faded.
He said:
"Financially, it is a great time doing Afrobeats, but the relationship amongst artists has deepened. Between 2012 and 2013, we artists used to hang out with each other, but now everyone is on their own. When I recorded 'Dami Duro,' Wande Coal and a lot of artists were in the studio with me, but now there is no such thing anymore."
