How Lati, My Late Mum's Staff, Sneaked Me To The Studio – Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has paid tribute to a childhood friend and former staff of his late mother, Lati.

He described him as a pivotal figure in his journey to music stardom.

The singer shared the heartfelt story during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe on Tuesday.

Davido recounted how Lati was employed by his late mother and remained in the household after her passing. According to Davido, his stepmother eventually sent Lati away.

The singer recalled how Lati, who was the youngest staff in the house, would sneak him to the studio in his car, as he used to DJ and make music.

Davido further added that he promised to come back for Lati after achieving fame, noting that he fulfilled his promise.

He said:
"My mum passed, you know, Lati used to work for my mum. So when my mum passed, Lati stayed around. And then when my mum passed, my step mum came, chased Lati away from the house."

"That time, my Lati, he was the youngest staff in the whole house. So we could relate."

"Lati would sneak me in his car, go to the studio, sneak me in his car. He used to do music and DJ. So then he would carry me to the studio."

"I told Lati, I was like, man, Lati, I'm doing music too now. Full time. Don't worry. I'll blow. When I blow, I'll come and get you. We're going to travel the world together."
