Jomoro District Elevated To Municipal Status

Hall-Assini(W/R),March 16,GNA- His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reminded Metropolitan,Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) of the pivotal role they play in the implementation and success of govrnment's flagship programmes.

He therefore charged all stakeholders and actors at the MMDAs to execute their mandate to fastrack development and better the living conditions of the people at the grassroot.

The Deputy Western Regional Minister Madam Fifty Eugenia Kusi said this on behalf of President Akufo-Addo at the inauguration of the Jomoro Municipal Assembly at Half-Assini in the Western Region.

The President said MMDCEs would be elected in due course to foster accountability in the local government system

He said the Jomoro District was fast developing and deserved a Municipal status to propel the development of the area.

President Akufo-Addo commended the effort of the sitting Member of Parliament(MP) for Jomoro,Mr.PaulEssien and the sitting District Chief Executive(DCE) for being instrumental in the elevation of the District and tasked the MP to work harder to bring more development to the area.

The President charged the Assembly to strategize to mobilize more revenue to spearheaded the growth of the Municipality.

Municipal Chief Executive(MCE),said created in 1988 to bring governance to the doorsteps of the people,he wolud ensure proven leadership to accelerate the pace of development and better the living conditions of the people.

He said the elevation comes with an increased demand to improve the local economy through the creation of sustainable jobs and incomes and improve the IGF to finance the developmental needs.

Mr.Kofie charged the Assembly to improve its waste management system.

He appealed to all stakeholders in the area to come on board and support the growth of the municipality.

The Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Council,Awulae Annor Adjaye appealed to government to put the road from Samenye to Half-Assini into good shape and asphalt all the town streets.

He urged government to create more jobs for the teeming youth to stem the tide of armed robbery and crime.

Awulae Adjaye charged the security agencies to flush out all criminals in the area and protect life and property.
