Axim holds 'Apofest' fun games Festival
The Chiefs and people of Apewosika Electoral Area, a fishing community in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region have successfully held their second annual edition of inter-community fun games festival dubbed 'Apofest' fun games.
The festival which was organised by Nzema Events Management in partnership with the Apewosika 'Apofest' planning committee was under the distinguished patronage of Awulea Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area and immediate past Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Nana Kofi Bentil, Chief Fisherman, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, Nkosuohene (Development Chief), all of Lower Axim Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Sibo III, chief of Apweosika, Nana Kojo Pogu, Chief Fisherman of Apewosika and Nana Kojo Panyin, Chief Fisherman of Anto-Apweosika respectively.
The 2017 edition was under the theme 'Promoting Unity and Development' and sponsored by the Office of the Lower Axim Nkosuohene, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa; Nkwantabisa Foundation, Networking for Community Development Africa, a community based NGO, Fisheries Commission and supported by the Office of the Former Municipal Chief Executive Hon Jame K. Baidoe and Mr. Annor Kofi, a businessman of the area.
Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, Nkosuohene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, in his speech commended the people for coming together to celebrate the Christmas holidays through fun games which was devoid of partisan-political lines.
According to him, his office is committed to promoting the developmental agenda of the people and the area at large irrespective of the people's background, being it political, ethnicity or tribal lines since he is focused on improving their good welfare instead of the few politicians.
"My duty is to ensure that our people are provided with the quality basic social amenities such as toilet facilities.
He mentioned that a bathhouse project meant for the fishermen along the coastal belt of the four communities is currently ongoing with one located at Santoasi under construction. This, he stressed shall be followed by Nkekem, Apweosika main and Antoa-Apewosika respectively.
Nana Nkwantabisa further called on his people to unit for a common developmental agenda of the area and urged them to rally behind his office to help herald more developmental projects of area at large.
Mr. Bright, a representative of the Fisheries Commission implored on the fishermen to devoid from using illegal methods for fishing and encouraged them to endeavour to number their canoes.
This, he added will make it easy for the commission and it's key stakeholders to address issues easily especially during emergencies.
On his part, Nana Kojo Pogu, Chief fisherman of Apewosika lauded the good initiative by the Nkosuohene of the area and called on all to collectively support him.
The one-week festival was climaxed with a durbar of Chiefs and dignitaries amidst sporting games such as regatta, beach soccer, tag of war, lime and spoon race, volleyball competition, athletics, swimming, eating competition, quiz competition for the fishermen by the fisheries commission.
