Bawku trainee nurses mark annual week celebrations
Bawku (U/E) April 11, GNA - The General Nursing and Midwives Trainee Association (GNMTA) of the Bawku Presbyterian Nursing Training College has marked its annual week celebration with a public education on Celebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) and Hepatitis B in the region.
The intension is to spread awareness on the need to live in an airy and clean environment to avoid being infected by the two health concerns.
The campaign was led by students who are members of the Association, some staff members of the College and students who have come for attachment with the aim to fight meningitis, Hepatitis B and promote good sanitation.
Activities for week included a clean-up exercise, a public education on the need for good sanitation and the need to eradicate open defecation in the area.
The theme for this year's celebration is: 'Ghana at 60, the role of the trainee nurse in quality health delivery for national development'.
Mr Jabal Osumani, the General Secretary for the Association in the College, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bawku, said the exercise was focused at educating the residents to practice good sanitation habits and to be mindful of keeping their surroundings clean.
Mr Aaron Asaasim, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, said the members had embarked on a health outreach programme to educate the people on reproductive health and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's) as well.
He called on philanthropists, nongovernmental organizations, and individuals to support the celebrations as it was part of activities to showcase the potential of the nursing profession and the Association.
