The Galamsey Promise
Why do you not listen to me, why do you hurt me?
You hurt me even more, even deeper
The louder I scream, the deeper you go
What was my mistake, providing you with so much riches, Ghana?
Listen to me and you won’t
Now hear me if you think you cannot, listen to me
Pretend to feel me hurt, even if you pretend you cannot see the cuts, bruises and abuse you inflict on me
Can you feel my pain me, in case you cannot see my hurt?
Every one of you; young, old, boy or girl, man or woman will feel my wrath for generations to come because you would not listen, feel or hear my cry; my turn will come Ghana, when you will feel my pain, when my blessing is your curse
You, yes you; you look on as I am bludgeoned, stabbed, cut, dragged and stuff with chemicals to the extent that I am now an addict of your mercury, but I will return to you in full measure as you gave me
You think you are alone by thinking you are alone and no one can see you?
You believe hurting me this way will satisfy your greed for gold, money and fame
Ghana my turn will come, when your gold, money and frame will not be able to appease me
I promise you this, that at that right time, you will remember me
You are not from me; I will reject you on your final resting day when they lay you in me
I will not accept you and make sure there is no trace of you once I swallow up your final cursed remains
Your fame, money and gold will not give you rest in me
Remember from me you were made and to be you shall return
I cry and curse the day you were made from me; little did I know you were my destruction
But remember my promise, I am the land, I keep my promise
Do not call your self-children of mine because I won’t call you mine
My children treat me cold
My daughters strip me bare for all to see my shame
My sons are stabbing me and laugh as I bleed
Which children of mine will give aliens the right to destroy me
I curse them and I will punish them with poisoned rivers after the aliens are gone
I will give you contaminated fish
I will take your health like you took my wealth
Remember my promise
No one will be left free when I unleash my wrath
Because of me you will lose your jobs
You will lose your positions, you will lose your fame, money and gold
I will expose you and you and you
Why do you do nothing!
You do nothing and watch on and say my bleeding is not red
But now see your rivers and streams
Are they not screaming red?
You pretend you don't hear my cry and you don’t see my blood flowing into the rivers
You claim I have endless riches so you destroy me, was that my curse
You support and allow me to be riddled with cancerous chemicals
I will return the favor
I blessed you but you cursed me so I will give what's yours to aliens
I will give your birth right to other nations because do not appreciate and protect me
Because of your selfishness I will plead to plague you with diseases, poisoned water and deadly pits
I will punish you, and bring your end closer
I will pollute your bodies with the same mercury your forced down me
I will spare no one, I have nothing to give you any more
You have taken all I have
I have nothing to give but to return to you pain and death
My time is now, my time is coming
You can hear me now
You can see me now
Your greed has destroyed me and I will punish you
You will never find a resting place in me, because I cannot rest
Is it too late Ghana, why are you waiting too long?
When I have cursed the waters and poisoned your crops?
Starved your rivers then you will listen?
Remember my Promise.
