Effiduase/Asokore MP accounts for stewardship

The commitment of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency in the Ashanti Region, to the development of his constituency and improvement of the lot of the constituents over the years, has been showcased in projects dotted across the area.

From 2009 to date, the MP has listed a number of projects embarked upon for the benefit of his constituents in a booklet.

In a booklet which seeks to account for his stewardship over the two-term tenure of office as MP for the area, Frank Boakye Agyen itemised development projects he initiated in all areas, including education, sports, security, health, socio-economic, water and sanitation, and roads.

In the area of sports, the MP built a stadium from his share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to help unearth sports talents in the constituency. It has since been the venue of activities for sports teams from the educational institutions.

The MP has donated jerseys and footballs to many teams in the various communities towards this objective.

An additional 16-seater Kumasi Ventilation Improved Pit (KVIP) place of convenience has been constructed close to the sports stadium to serve patrons of the sports.

The MP completed a house to accommodate staff of the District Directorate of the Ministry of Health, and also fully rehabilitated the Akokoaso Health Centre and Police Headquarters at Effiduase to arrest leakages in the roofing.

Between 2009 and 2015, the MP paid over GH¢200,000 in fees of 180 students, under a scholarship scheme from his MPs Common Fund.

He has paid the fees of about 180 students at all levels of education – senior high schools (SHS), colleges of education, nursing and midwifery schools, polytechnics and universities – thus disbursed GH¢60,000 from his Common Fund to 40 needy students from various levels from the Senior High School through the polytechnics, nursing colleges, colleges of education and universities since mid July this year.

A proposed midwifery training school, currently under construction from his share of MPs National Health Insurance fund, at Asokore, is yet to be handed over to the Ministry of Health to ensure that constituents seeking to pursue nursing and midwifery are enrolled locally.

During the two terms (2009-2016) in office, the MP repaired 30 boreholes which broke down in some communities in the constituency, including Effiduase Zongo, Nkwankwaanua, Senchi Town, Bonya, Daakoho, Obaapaninkrom, Etia Extension, Akwamu Extension and Odurokrom.

The MP also donated bags of cement to Okaikrom for the construction of ICT Center, and Junior High School (JHS) for the Odurokrom and Effiduase Koranic Islamic School, as well as teachers' quarters for Tetekaso.

Also documented is the donation of laptops to the Asokore Hamdannya Islamic School, Asukawkaw D/A JHS, Ntumkumso D/A, Effiduase Presbyterian JHS, and Awaham Brofoyedru D/A JHS.

Other recipients of the cement donation include the Effiduase Presby Primary, Asokore West Electoral Area, Ntumkumso Clinic, Effiduase Traditional Council, Odurokrom, Okaikrom, Effiduase Zongo Asokore Zongo Hamdannya and Senchi.

Sewing apprentices in the constituency have also benefited from the largesse of the MP, who donated sewing machines and tool kits.

Lawyer Agyen, as he is popularly known by his constituents, has facilitated other projects, including the Effiduase-Asokore township roads, extension of electricity to towns and villages, and the construction of a bridge on River Gemire between Effiduase town and Zongo.

His concerns raised in Parliament informed the construction of the Effiduase-Asaman and Effiduase-Tetekaso roads, and also lobbied the relevant authorities for the allocation of a tender for the local fire service station.

The MP has also initiated an ICT project for Effiduase, with funding from the Ghana education trust Fund (GETFund). Other projects funded under the MPs share of the GETFund include the Ahinsan Teachers' Quarters, Bouya JHS, Oguaa Kindergarten (KG), Holy Trinity Primary School at Asokore, Asokore Zongo KD School, Apemso SDA JHS, and the rehabilitation of Bomso Primary School.

Ahwerewa Town and Nkwankwaanua benefited from market projects by the MP, while public places of convenience were built at Nsutem, Seniagya, Ntumkumso, and Okaikrom, with two Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) toilets at Okuase Effiduase and Etia Effiduase.

Recently, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore constituency donated assorted medical supplies -Fluconazole injections, boxes of Gentamicine Sulfate, Ringers Lactate, four pairs of hand gloves, boxes of Famotidine injections, boxes of Neutrogena, a quantity of Vaseline and boxes of Nexcare, Dermacea and gauze bandages- which he received from a foreign non-governmental organisation (NGO), to the Effiduase Government Hospital, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Hospital and District Health Directorate.
