BEIGE Academy Unveils The Discovery
BEIGE Academy, the learning and development arm of BEIGE Foundation, has introduced The Discovery, a talent development programme as part of its pursuit to prepare the youth for the real world of work.
The Discovery was launched during the career fairs at the University of Ghana and Ashesi University College, and has since registered over two hundred (200) applicants. Some university students who signed up for the programme lauded Management of BEIGE Academy for the initiative, and urged their colleagues to come on board the talent development platform.
Stephen Sarfo-Kantanka Osei, a final year Communications Design student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), joined The Discovery programme in May 2016. He was assigned to the Brands Department at The BEIGE Group, where he worked with the Creative Unit.
Stephen indicated that, “prior to joining The Discovery programme, I had little knowledge on designing, so I took it upon myself to learn from my new environment and make myself useful. I was included in meetings and discussions and that motivated me to give out my best.”
Stephen is confident that his time at The BEIGE Group has put him on a high pedestal as compared to his peers. He can boast of having learnt so much that, he is sure his mates who didn’t have the opportunity to work with The BEIGE Group would not have such knowledge. He believes his experience would give him an added advantage after school.
Alex Nii-Adjei Adjetey, also a final year student of Publishing Studies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), joined the The Discovery programme in June 2016, after he was shortlisted in an interview.
Though he felt unskilled during his first few days of joining the Creative Unit, he confidently says, now, “I can handle complex design tasks since I have now acquired knowledge in software I previously had no knowledge about. I commend this advantage being offered by BEIGE Academy through The Discovery programme which unearths talents in the youth and inculcates core attributes of leadership, technical capabilities, and business relationship. I would like to get permanent employment with The BEIGE Group as well”.
Annabel Nana Frimponmaa Buachie, a third year Humanities student of the University of Ghana, studying Linguistics and Russian, was shortlisted for The Discovery programme in June 2016. The programme offered her firsthand experience of a formal work setting and the experience she has gathered has given her a great insight.
