Fetish Priestess calls for strict environmental practices
Okomfo Serwaa, a Fetish Priestess of Akrowa in the Afigya-Kwabre District, has called on the assemblies to ensure strict adherence to environmental practices by the people.
She has asked the assembly to prevail on Mr. Amponsah, a private developer who has blocked the waterway of the Asuowere River in the locality, for a fuel station.
Okomfo Serwaah said Mr. Amponsah, a GOIL distributor, had filled the land with sand to block the river, turning it into a pond, which has resulted in the deaths two persons.
According to her, when a delegation approached Mr. Amponsah to get a excavator to open up the drain for the stagnant water to flow, he (Amponsah) reportedly asked the people to raise some amount of money for him to buy diesel for the task.
Okomfo Serwaah appealed to Mr. Amponsah to yield to the demands of the people to avoid further deaths in the pond, or accept the blame in the event of any disaster.
The Fetish Priest commended the Overlord of Akrowa Dominasehene, Baafour Yaw Boateng, for his vision for the development of the community.
Meanwhile, Mr. Amponsah has said, in reaction, that he acquired the land for commercial purposes, and that it is the responsibility of the Urban Roads and the Assembly to provide culverts for drains to ensure the free flow of water.
He said he had met with the local development committee of the community to state his position.
