We Don’t Want NPP’s Randy Abbey In NDC—Klottey Korle NDC Foot Soldiers
Angry foot soldiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Klottey Korle Constituency in the greater Accra region have said that they do not want NPP elements such as Randy Abbey, who they claim has been brought into the NDC party by first lady Lordina Mahama to destroy the party.
The angry reaction has come a couple of days after Mr. Randy Abbey took position and threw his weight behind Dr. Zanetor Rawlings as the host of the ‘Good Morning Ghana’ political talk show on Metro TV.
During the show last Friday, Randy Abbey who is also former spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association and rumoured to be a close confidant of the first lady of Ghana, dismissed claims by some NDC members that Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is not qualified to contest in parliamentary primaries without her name in the national voters register as at the time of the contest last year. Randy Abbey quoted the Ghana constitution copiously to support his stands for Zanetor Rawlings.
But speaking in angry reaction, some foot soldiers and ruling NDC party supporters have questioned the authority of Mr. Randy Abbey to take position on NDC matters.
‘Who is Randy Abbey?’ Nii Nortey Aryeh, an Osu resident questioned. ‘Is he not NPP? Didn’t he follow President Kufour to Germany world cup in 2006 where he stole millions of Ghana money? We know that for eight(8) years of NPP government, Randy Abbey was following NPP but today, he claims to be a friend of Lordina Mahama and today he is sitting on Metro TV campaigning for Zanetor because of Lordina Mahama? Why, because of ‘Kululu’ they are now bringing NPP people to speak for Rawlings Daughter? Randy Abbey is NPP and he should stay where he is as an opposition’.
Nii Nortey Aryeh accused Lordina Mahama of taking care of NPP supporters including Randy Abbey and others who are now behaving as if they are more NDC supporters than the foot soldiers of the NDC party. ‘Randy and his NPP people have said for several years that Rawlings is a thieve, murderer, and corrupt leader. What has changed? Is he a hypocrite? Today, Randy is supporting the same Rawlings daughter because of ‘Nokofio’. He must leave NDC matters alone for NDC people to discuss. He is warned’.
Emmanuel Rodick Ayittey, another NDC foot soldier asked Randy Abbey to go back to NPP and support them because he is not needed in the NDC. ‘Who is that Lordina? ‘ he asked? ‘The President’s wife? Why does she have to bring that guy to the NDC to talk for us? We don’t want Randy Abbey in NDC matters. Randy wants to destroy NDC following the President’s wife. Fuck Randy Abbey’, he said angrily.
Mohammed Yussif, another NDC foot soldier of the Klottey Korle constituency has a stiffer warning for Randy Abbey and his sponsors in the NDC.
‘Randy Abbey is a liar and a stomach politician’ he said. ‘We hear that Randy is now NDC because NDC is in power. He was following Kufuor for eight years. Today, he carries the bag of first lady Lordina Mahama everywhere. So if NDC loses power in 2016, will Randy remain NDC or he will go back to NPP? Those who are sponsoring Randy Abbey and co. to speak for NDC should know that these are the people taking NDC and President Mahama back to opposition in 2016.’
The NDC Klottey Klottey constituency primary which was held in November 2015 has been marred by massive controversy surrounding the qualification of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings who beat incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashietey to become the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the 2016 general elections. The incumbent MP is currently in court asking for the election of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, daughter of the NDC founder Jerry Rawlings as parliamentary candidate, to be declared null and void.
The electoral commission of Ghana has recently settled a controversy surrounding whether or not Zanetor’s name is in the national voters register by disclosing that her name is not in their official records. Supports of Zanetor Rawlings insists that she will be registered as a voter and qualified to run for the parliamentary elections before the EC calls for filing of nominations for November’s elections. But her opponents say, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is being pushed illegally into power to keep her family name relevant despite not being legally qualified.
The first lady Lordina Mahama and her surrogates have been fingered in several news reports as an open supporter and sponsor of the candidacy of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings whose mother Nana Konadu Agyeman –Rawlings is openly campaigning against the John Mahama and the NDC government under the banner of a new opposition political party, the National Democratic Party (NDP).
The court is yet to make a final decision on the case brought against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings’ candidature. Before that, the controversy surrounding her qualification to run for parliament continue to intensify as co-plaintiff and former parliamentary contestant Nii John Coleman bizarrely pulled out of the court case against Zanetor without any explanations.
Meanwhile, there are fresh emerging reports that Dr. Zanetor Rawlings holds two national passports including that of Ghana and Ireland. Asked by a caller to clarify the allegation of double passports on a unique FM Independence Day show hosted by Zanetor Rawlings, the Rawlings first daughter avoided answering the question, saying that the question had nothing to do with the subject matter of the radio show. Her vague response to the question has raised further doubts in the minds of the public about her honesty and her integrity in her quest to hold public office in Ghana.
