Afoko Launches Npp New Membership Card
The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko has launched a new membership card for the party to register it members electronically and everywhere they are in the world at the Airport West Hotel.
According to him, the move by the party is to consolidate and increase its membership base in order to boost its chances of recapturing power as they go to the polls in 2016.
“The supporters and members of the party can now register manually through their constituency office vendors across the country or self-register through the party’s official website (www.nppcenter.org), via USSD or by simply texting their first and last names to short code: 1942. Those registering by USSD or SMS will be required to update their profile and verify their profile online or at vendor agent locations before they can apply for their membership card” he said.
Addressing members of the media, Mr, Paul Afoko, in his opening remarks applauded this new initiative by the party and maintained that this new membership card which has a superior technology is the best in our sub-region if not the whole of Africa.
He added that “one unique thing about the Paymenex solution is that, at application, a virtual bank account is opened for the applicant, an NPP debit card created, linked to the account and activated – all in 15 seconds. An NPP card will now hold, not only, personal information, but financial as well”.
He stressed further that, “Members can pay their dues and make donations from their member account area, by sms or USSD. This time around, the member’s NPP debit card will be debited and not his or her airtime account held with the telco thus making it very easy to track donors”.
Mr Paul Afoko also noted that all dues paid or donations made to the party will be credited into the party’s account directly. “For instance, if you pay GHC1.00 to the party through this system, GHC1.00 will be sent directly into the party’s account”.
The General-Secretary of the party, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in his remarks noted that already manual forms have been sent to almost all the constituencies across the country to begin the registration process. He emphasized that, “in due course Paymanex Solution will roll out thousands of outlets to get our supporters and members to register and become card bearing members of the party at the grassroots level since all politics are local”.
He added that, “members can link their families (regardless of age) to their profiles using the add-family feature in their account area. Those added this way will not have the status of registered members, but the party can still reach them with targeted messages and, hopefully, get them to register as members when they qualify, get them to register with the EC when they are of age, find them, get them out to vote and provide volunteer services”.
Mr. Agyepong mentioned that the party albums and a directory of officers in the party from National down to the polling station will no more be compiled manually. The album will be generated from the database and will therefore be difficult to manipulate.
There were other presentations made by Paymanex solution and some officials of the party including Mr. Ralph Felli, a member of the National Finance Committee who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee.
The media launched was also attended by party sympathizers, Parliamentary candidates, constituency and regional executives across the country.
