Education Director Vows To Unseat Incumbent Savelugu MP

The Municipal Director of Education in the Savelugu/Nanton district of the Northern Region, Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu has vowed to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament of the Savelugu Constituency, Hon Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo after he files his form to contest the NDC parliamentary in that constituency.

According to him, the incumbent MP is tired after representing the people in the constituency for almost 20 years in parliament and must retired to help build the party, adding that, anything short of that will create doom for the party in the 2016 elections.

Five persons have pick up forms including the MCE Hon Abdulai Red to contest the NDC primaries in the Savelugu constituency craving to unseat the incumbent MP, Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu also the former District Chief Executive of the then Gushegu/Karaga District in the President Jerry John Rawlings regime noted that, he is a grassroots man and over the years have help build the party in many diverse ways in the Savelugu constituency.

The Education Director in an interviewed said, the Savelugu seat is shaky based on the declined of votes in the last elections, saying that, the trends that led to the votes declined in the constituency is still inevitable and therefore among all the aspirants he is more formidable and more creditable to change that trend.

The NDC parliamentary hopeful reiterated that, he has what it takes to change the trend of the last elections by ensuring that NDC secure the Savelugu seat and get more votes for President John Dramani Mahama to win the 2016 elections.

He said, his first priority in the constituency is education and will do what he can to improve education in the area, reiterating that, education is the bed rock of development.

Over 2000 party faithful within the constituency amidst drumming, dancing, and singing accompanied the Education Director to file his form at the party’s Constituency office in Savelugu.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu after filing his forms also visited some prominent leaders in the constituency to seek their blessings including the Chief of Savelugu, Yoo Naa, the Butcher’s Chief, the Savelugu Chief Imam and others.

The youth in the area including some chiefs and opinion leaders throws their support to Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu as he went round greeting the people in the constituency.

Some youth groups numbering about 15 also came out to pledged their support to the former DCE and reiterated that, the party needs an appealing and winnable candidate to secure the seat for the NDC, adding that, the incumbent MP, Hon Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo can no longer secure the Savelugu seat for the party.

The incumbent MP for the area went to parliament in 1992 and has since spends two decades in Ghana parliament.

The Savelugu constituency has been a traditional seat for the NDC with large margin of votes for the past elections but however, in the 2012 elections votes of the party in the constituency has declined drastically.

Earlier, Hon Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo told the constituents that she will not run for the 2016 elections due to the declining of votes in the last elections but made a u-turn to pick a form to contest.

But Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu insist that the long serving legislature should step down and rally behind him to improve the fortunes of the party, saying that, the incumbent MP for the Savelugu Constituency has done her bid, “Hajia (Hon.Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo) you have done a lot but you are tired now so let me continue from where you stop”.

The former DCE therefore assures the party faithful of winning more votes in the 2016 elections, “my victory will be a victory for President John Dramani Mahama in the 2016 elections”.

Meanwhile, the deadline of filing forms to contest for the NDC primaries is tomorrow’s Thursday 10th September 2015.
