Amedume Vrs Woyome
On Tuesday 26th June, 1979 around 10:00am in the morning, six top military officers were lined up at the Teshie Firing Range and sprayed with bullets-two former Heads of State General Afrifa and General Akuffo. The four others were Kotei, Felli, Amedume and Yaw Boakye.
None of these soldiers was tried. None of them was given the opportunity to defend himself. They were accused of having committed crimes against the state without any trial they were killed by firing squad.
Till now, the one whose execution sent shivers down the spine of Ghanaians was the Navy Commander, Joy Kobla Amedume. He was a career soldier, commanding the navy in line of seniority. His 'crime' was that he had taken a BANK LOAN of Fifty Thousand Cedis (Now Five Ghana Cedis) secured with collateral, attracting interest.
In the name of REVOLUTION, in the name of integrity, probity and accountability, Joy Kobla Amedume was shot at the stakes to death.
Oh God. Amedume, try and rest in peace.
That was 1979.
1980,1990, 2000, 2010
The year is 2012-thirty years gone.
Children born in 1980 have today become University graduates, girls being mothers of two or three to four children. The hottest news in town today is that a certain Ghanaian businessman presumed financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress has managed to get paid by Government the huge sum of over Five Hundred Billion Old Ghana Cedis.
When President Mills held his press conference on 7th January 2012 and was quizzed by the press, the President said he knows NOTHING about the matter and that he had referred the issue to the EOCO for investigation.
EOCO in their report say that President Mills in fact KNEW something about this Woyome fracas. In fact it was because President Mills, a lawyer directed that the state should NOT pay Woyome-that is why Woyome went to Court.
So against this background when the President was telling the press that he did not know anything about the Woyome affair, what exactly was he saying? A half truth or deliberate act of misinformation?
Woyome went to court and sued the Attorney General. The processes were served on the Attorney General who entered appearance, but failde to file a defense. EOCO says that the schedule officer at the Attorney General's department handling the Woyome case refrained from filling a defence, and for this his innocent wife was given a cheaque of Four Billion Old Cedis by Woyome!!!
FOR FIVE GHANA CEDIS, NAVY COMMANDER AMEDUME WAS SHOT AT THE STAKES
According to EOCO, Woyome per his own documentary submissions, knew that he was not entitled to the money that he laid claim to in court, took judgment and collected the money-over five hundred billion state money , meant for building roads, schools, bore holes and paying better salaries and wages to teachers, nurses, doctors-one man 500 billion cedis...
For 5 Ghana Cedis, Rawlings the founder of the ruling NDC shot Amedume. EOCO says that Betty Mould Iddrisu as the Nation's Attorney General ought to have ensured that the state defended the suit. In fact even when they took default jugement, EOCO says that President Mills asked that there should be a stay of execution...which was not done.
When Martin Amidu got angry and said that he will not condone any gargantuan crime against the state, he was sacked for misconduct. I hear that Alfred Woyome has been arrested...how about Betty Mould Iddrisu?
Amedume, try and rest in peace.
For the records, the High Priest of Integrity, Probity and Accountability J.J Rawlings has said nothing about the Woyome affair. Asiedu Nketia (General Mosquito) the NDC secretary general who accused the New Pattriotic Party as thieves has said nothing about the Woyome Saga...Amedume try and rest in peace
