He noted that the region required a united front to face its developmental challenges and appealed to the various ethnic groups in the region to see each other as brothers and sisters fighting for a common destiny

Mr Ziedeng who gave the advice at the official outdooring ceremony of Nii Ajumaku Nunoo I and Naa Lamley Lamptey as the Ga-Adangbe Chief and Queen mother of the Northern Region respectfully, regretted the negative perception that some people in Southern Ghana had about the North.

This, he observed, had resulted in resentments and undermined national unity and cohesion and urged the Ga-Adangbes in the region to help demystify those perceptions.

'Last year alone, the region lost the services of 24 medical doctors due to these perceptions, but those of you living in the region can testify that the area is a peaceful one. We hope all would come to the realization that peace is an essential ingredient for nation building hence the need to peacefully co-exist,' he emphasized.

The Northern Regional Minister also blamed the wrong perception that people had about the North partly on the current educational system which does not inculcate a sense of nationalism in students and called for a complete overhaul of the system if nation wants to move forward.

He, therefore, called on the Ga-Adangbe community to be law abiding by eschewing tendencies that would bring chaos and confusion, and advised the new chief to use his knowledge and experience to help raise the status of the community by addressing poverty and the high illiteracy rate among the children.

In a brief remark, Nii Ajumaku Nunoo I expressed his gratitude to the kingmakers and chiefs in the region and the community for the honour done him.

He said the peaceful installation was a clear demonstration of the love and faith the people had in him and promised to cooperate with the people and the sub-chiefs towards the rapid development of the area.

The new chief  outlined  his priority area as education and promised to initiate an Educational Trust Fund to cater for all children of school going age in the town to become useful future citizens and urged his people to rekindle their communal spirit towards the development of the town.

Nii Ajumaku Nunoo I, called for unity to enable them to forge ahead in their quest to develop the area though they had been regarded as settlers who for reason or the other found themselves in the region.

On his part, the President of the Ga-Adangbe society, Mr Sammy Quao, said the support demonstrated during the short but impressive ceremony must be translated into real terms when they are called for duty to build the community which is endowed with human resources for building any society.

He called for concerted efforts to foster a strong bond of unity, peace and friendship among the Ga-Adangbe people and the various traditional groupings in the region.

The ceremony was performed by the Very Rev Canon Clement Azure of the Anglican Cathedral in Tamale and in attendance was the 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Earlier in the day, he was given a kingly ride in a fleet of cars from his residence near the Kamina Barracks amidst 'fontonfrom' and 'kete' traditional music through the principal streets of the town to Picorna Hotel where he took the oath of office and to officially usher in this year's Homowo celebrations.

Residents would therefore have the opportunity to witness the rich culture of the Ga-Adangmes in this year's Homowo celebrations in the region.
