rLG Flies High At Ghana Club 100

Indigenous mobile phone assembling company, rlg, has been declared the premier company in the country in the 2013 Ghana Club 100 ranking.

The company beat off competition from its equals, including the likes of Goldfields Ghana Limited, Enterprise Life Assurance Company, PBC Limited as well as Kasapreko Company Limited to place first.

The GC 100 rankings is an annual initiative by the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) to honour companies that excelled in their various areas of operations in the previous fiscal year.

The award criteria is also based on size of company, profitability and growth level of the company.

It was introduced in 1998 and has since become an enviable event that corporate Ghana looks up to on an annual basis.

rlg, which is part of the Agams Group of Companies, placed second in 2012.

The Company which is owned by business mogul, Mr Roland Agambire, assembles computers, desktops, tablets and mobile phones. It also offers hands-on skills training in the respective products.

Goldfields, Enterprise Life Assurance Company Limited (ELAC), PBC Limited placed second, third and fourth respectively.

Speaking after receiving the award last night, Group Finance Officer of rlg, Roland Ajetumobi told Citi News the key thing that culminated to his outfit winning this coveted award is their innovative leadership shown in the past year.

“For us innovation is the trick. In all the things we do we are focused and developed in terms of innovation. And you can see that all the businesses we are engaged in are as a result of our innovative ideas in developing products.”

“We know that what will take us to the next level is always to be ahead of our competitors,'' he added.

Meanwhile Goldfields Ghana ranked 2nd, Enterprise life 3rd and McDan Shipping 5th.

The full list of the 2012 Ghana Club 100 is largely dominated by rural and community banks. Chief Executive of the GIPC Mawena Trebah told Citi Business News this is because her outfit only solicits and invites companies to present their documentation rather than make it mandatory.

“If an organisation does not present its documentation, you don't get that many from a particular sector. Then in many respects another that has more interested parties will probably dominate the rankings.”

Mrs Trebah adds that GIPC in its bid to correct this is targeting interactions with industry-specific companies to encourage them to see the benefit of participating in the ranking exercise.

Special Awards went to Kasapreko, HPW and SoftTribe who were named the most innovative companies of the year. Goil won the leading company on the Ghana stock exchange, Goldfields-leading taxpayer, Multi-Pro- best entrant, Produce Buying Company- leader in Agro sector.

Leader in Rural Banking went to Amanfeman Rural Bank, Leader in education to Intercomm, fastest growing-McDan shipping and largest company to Goldfields Ghana Ltd.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, graced the ceremony.
