NGO rehabilitates clinic
Sagnarigu (N/R), Oct. 03, GNA - The Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC), a child centered non-governmental organization, has said a healthy child was not only an asset to the family but also to the nation and appealed to parents and government to give adequate healthcare to children.
Dr. Jim Carrie, the Vice President of Global Operations of the CCFC who stated this at Kanvillit on Wednesday during the handing over ceremony of Kanvilli Clinic, said the state and the family needed to invest heavily in the health needs of children.
'Getting communities and nations to be healthy has been a part of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG). CCFC supports those goals and has incorporated them in all programme activities in communities in which we operate in six countries', he said.
Dr. Carrie has been visiting projects being implemented by the NGO and expressed satisfaction about the activities of CCFC in Ghana and promised that the over 40,000 Canadians who were supporting the CCFC through their personal donations would not relent on their efforts.
He, however, urged the Ghana Health Service to pay more attention to the six childhood killer diseases saying, 'While acknowledging the progress made, a lot now depends on government to provide facilities for the people to access'.
Mrs Gifty Akosua Baka, CCFC Country Director, said the Kanvilli Clinic was rehabilitated by its programmes partner, Markaz Al Bishara, at the cost of GH₵42,000 as part of its contribution towards improving healthcare needs of the community especially children.
She said the rehabilitation of the project was in line with the six-year strategic plan of the NGO and urged government to fulfil its part of the bargain by furnishing the facility with medical equipment.
Mr Alhassan Sorugudoo, the District Chief Executive for the Sagnarigu District, commended the CCFC for its immediate response to rehabilitate the facility and promised to speed up action in acquiring medical equipment to enable patients to access the clinic.
Madam Gertrude Yentumi, Sagnarigu District Health Director, expressed the gratitude of the Ghana Health Service and that the service was ready to post personnel as soon as possible and appealed to the Assembly to provide the accessories.
She said the facility would bring access to healthcare closer to the doorsteps of the people and urged the residents to patronize it when it officially starts operating.
