Ahanta West Underdeveloped
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahanta West in the Western Region, Joseph Dofoyena, has stated that despite the fact that the district is about 25 years old, it lacks the needed infrastructure.
He regretted that the district was bedevilled with numerous developmental challenges including poor road network, lack of electricity in many rural communities, lack of potable water, lack of better healthcare facilities, inadequate qualified teachers in basic schools and high youth unemployment rate.
He has, therefore, called on assembly members in the district to work hard and help to bring about significant socio-economic transformation in the district.
'Our individual parochial interest must give way if we want to succeed in this direction,' he told the assembly members.
The Ahanta West DCE was addressing the 2 nd General Meeting of the Assembly at Agona-Nkwanta, the district's capital.
He told the assembly members that with determination and a common sense of purpose, the district would succeed.
He asked them to collaborate and co-operate at all times on matters relating to the development of the district.
He indicated that the district was poised to increase its local revenue base with the introduction of different strategies at both the Area Council level and the main office.
'With regard to the recurrent expenditure budget, the assembly estimated to spend an amount of GH¢3,780,874 in 2013, but as at 31 st May, 2013, total recurrent expenditure stood at GH¢873,061.55, representing 23.1 per cent of the estimated budget,' he declared.
The DCE pointed out that the district's revenue department would be strengthened and supported to play its monitoring role properly and to submit regular reports on financial matters to management for further analysis and action.
'Additionally, a coordinator has been appointed to supervise property rate collection in the district to promote efficiency, effectiveness and transparency,' he stressed.
