Tarkwa, May 21, GNA - Kwame Nkurmah, a 22 year-old employee, working for a contractor at Abosso Goldfields, Damang mine, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a 15 year-old girl.

He was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Angelina Krampeh, is a trader and a mother of the victim. Both are tenants in the convict's house at Gari-factory near Huni/Valley in the Western Region.

He said on January 3 this year, the complainant while going to bed in her room left the victim together with the convict in the courtyard.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant woke up and found out that the convict had locked her up in the room.

Detective Amponsah said when the complainant managed to open the door she detected that the victim and the convict were in the room.

Prosecution said when the victim came out of the room the complainant asked her what she was doing in the room and she initially refused to tell her the truth but she later confessed that the offender lured her into the room and had sexual intercourse with her.

He said when the complainant confronted Kwame Nkurmah on the incident he admitted the offence and gave her an amount of GH¢50.00 to send the victim to the hospital for examination if she was pregnant.

Detective Amponsah said the convict later contacted some elders within the neighborhood to plead on his behalf for the matter to be settled amicably at home but the complainant refused and reported it to the Police.
