Aliu Mahama Was A Capable Acting President—Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a special tribute to the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, describing him as the longest serving Vice President in the history of the country, who was an able Acting President.

President John Mahama said he was a true leader who really demonstrated that he could always handle national affairs in the absence of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

President Mahama was speaking at the National Independence in Accra where the mortal remains of the late former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, had been laid in state for an official funeral prayer service before his interment in Tamale.

“The Government of Ghana continues to receive messages of condolences from all quarters of the world saluting the hard work and the selfless dedication to service he exhibited in office as the vice president,” indicated President John Mahama.

The president pointed out that the immediate suspension of political campaigns in honour of the demise of Aliu Mahama demonstrated high maturity in the democratic dispensation of Ghana.

“I received the news of the demise of Alhaji Aliu Mahama with great sorrow and sadness; especially coming in less than six months after the death of our former President, His Excellency, Professor John Evans Atta Mills,” said President John Mahama.

He further stated that Alhaji Aliu Mahama made peculiar contributions to the development of Ghana in the area of sports where he chaired the Board of Real Tamale United (RTU) Football Club as well as rising into the highest position of the land as Vice President.

“He worked with distinction and passion and was capable Acting President in the absence of President John Agyekum Kufuor and we offer our deepest condolences to the family especially Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama,” said President John Mahama.
