Free Education Is Attainable – Papa Owusu-Ankomah

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Papa Owusu-Ankomah has assured his constituents that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would fulfill his promise of making SHS education free.

He stressed that the next NPP government would implement the proposed free SHS policy and other social intervention policies incorporated into the party's manifesto.

He noted that the NPP has an enviable record in the implementation of social intervention policies such as Capitation Grant in basic schools, School Feeding Programme, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and free Maternal Health Care, among others.

'I wish to assure the good people of this country that the NPP government will never renege on this electoral promise to provide the free SHS policy, the party's flagship policy pledge in its manifesto,' he noted.

Hon Owusu-Ankomah stated these during the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre with high speed internet service connectivity for the cluster of schools at Adiembra and Kweikuma in the constituency.

The centre would also serve as e-learning centre for the people in the Sekondi community.

The inauguration of the GH¢50,000 ICT facility was in line with the objectives of the NPP in developing the local economy with its associated fundamental structural transformation.

According to the Sekondi MP, the provision of the centre was a partial fulfillment of his vision to provide all schools in the constituency with ICT facilities.

The Sekondi MP told his constituents that the development of quality education and accessibility to a cross-section of people was one of his topmost priorities.

The legislator indicated that he had provided educational infrastructure and services across the constituency since assuming the post.

'20 laptops have been supplied to the schools within the Essaman-Ekuasi area of the constituency. The Old Hospital Cluster of Schools has also been supported with ICT facilities and services,' he added.

He said education had become completely technological across the globe, adding, 'Our future leaders need to be well trained and equipped to take full responsibility of this nation.

Kofi Imbeah, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of Education indicated that ICT was an integral component of any educational enterprise and commended the Sekondi MP for his efforts in ensuring that children in his constituency gained access to ICT.
