3 Venues for Mills' one week celebration
When the sun begins to rise from the East and finally settles at the Western corridor, three venues will be prominent in the history books of the country today, as the nation celebrates one week of the life of the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.
The venues, according to official government sources, include the private residence of the late President at the Regimanuel Gray Estate, off the Spintex Road, Ekumfi Otuam, hometown of the late President, and third is the Parliament of Ghana.
At the late President's private residence, the newly-sworn in President, John Dramani Mahama, is expected to be among the chief mourners to receive guests who will troop to the house to console Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, wife of the departed President.
At Ekumfi Otuam, family members of the late President are also expected to converge to receive visitors from all walks of life. Among the group of visitors who will storm the town include a delegation from the Legislative House.
On the Minority side, The Chronicle learnt it would be led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, K.T. Hammond, while that of the Majority side would be led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Mfantsiman East, now Ekumfi Constituency, George Kuntu Blankson.
The delegation is expected to greet the celebrated Otuam Asafo Company before proceeding to the family house of the late President to console the bereaved family.
In Parliament, the leadership of the Legislature, including the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo, are expected to welcome visitors across the globe, as the House joins millions of Ghanaians to celebrate the life of the late President.
The occasion, incidentally, coincides with the presentation to the House of the nominee chosen by President John Dramani Mahama to be the Vice President of the land.
A minute's silence for Mills @ 2:15 pm today
In another development, the government has directed the nation to observe a minute's silence today, 31st July, 2012, at 2:15 p.m. (14:15 GMT) in honour of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
The said day and time marks one week and the exact time that President Atta Mills passed away.
Wherever people find themselves throughout Ghana at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, 31st July, 2012, they are to observe a minute's silence as directed, and also say a prayer afterwards for the soul of President Atta Mills who worked selflessly towards bettering the lives of Ghanaians.
The electronic media, as far as is reasonably possible, are also encouraged to observe the minute silence, according to the directive of the government.
