Kufuor urges Ghanaians to support projects
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Ghanaians to support projects aimed at improving the livelihood of people and the society.
Launching the Compassion Foundation in Accra recently, Mr Kufuor urged Ghanaians to throw their weights behind such laudable projects.
The Compassion Foundation, an initiative of Archbishop Duncan-Williams, the Founder and Overseer of the Action Chapel International, was set up to help improve the lives of the underprivileged and needy, especially those in rural communities.
It has immediate plans to build six-classroom blocks each in 12 communities across the country. In the coming months the foundation will embark on a project to sink boreholes in some selected communities to provide potable water in those parts of the country.
The former president described Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams as a selfless man, who over the years had touched the lives of individuals and society as a whole and continues to seek ways of improving the lives of underprivileged through his newest charity initiative.
The launch brought together distinguished personalities such as a former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, and former Vice-President of Zambia, Nevers Mumba, all of whom lauded the initiative as coming at an opportune time to bring development to the doorstep of African communities.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams expressed his gratitude to Mr Kufuor and other invited dignitaries for making time to support this worthy cause, as it coincided with his 55th birthday celebration.
In a thanksgiving service held the following day at the Prayer Cathedral (Spintex Road) of Action Chapel, the founder of the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministries, Reverend Steve Mensah, admonished Christians, particularly ministers of the Gospel of Christ, to redirect their focus and message on eternity to the less-privileged and needy in society.
Rev. Mensah said the greatest commission of Jesus Christ was centred on compassion, healing, caring and providing for the sick and the needy. He, therefore, charged Christians to move out of their comfort zones and endeavour to reach out to the poor.
The Senior Bishop of the Action Chapel, James Saah, also added his voice to the need for members of the church to give their widow’s mite to ensure that the foundation survives and touches the lives of the underprivileged in remote and deprived communities across the country.
