Abinkyi market comes alive
THE 7,000-CAPACITY Abinkyi Market, facilitated by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to absorb displaced traders from the race Course, is ready for occupation.
Mr. Thomas Kwabena Braimah, Managing Director of T&K Enterprise, contractors undertaking the project on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, says the facility would become the second largest market in Kumasi on completion.
The facility has an adjoining lorry park which would contain about six transport operators. The premises have also been tarred and pavements laid with places of convenience and pipe borne water duly provided.
Mr. Clement Kegeri, the spokesperson of the Kumasi Mayor says the KMA has no option but to compel traders to occupy the market without compromise.
The KMA boss, Samuel Sarpong, said the Abinkyi market has the greatest prospects for traders in the city and urged all traders to stop doing business on the streets and pavements and at Filling stations and voluntarily re-locate to the Abinkyi market.
Mr. Sarpong reminded traders and transport owners that it was illegal and unacceptable for anybody to carry out business activities on the streets and unauthorized places.
The KMA has since June last year made efforts to resettle traders who had to relocate from the Race Course for the commencement of work on the Sun City Ghana project.
