Chief of Zaare launches Education Endowment Fund
Zaare(UE), Jan 18, GNA - The Chief of Zaare Community near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, Naba Paul Agoo on Tuesday launched an Education Endowment Fund to enable needy students to continue their education.
The Chief who launched the Education Endowment Fund at the annual Kuure Festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Zaare Community, explained that the rational for the launching of the Fund was to support many students in the area who had qualified to enter into tertiary institutions but could not afford to pay the requisite fees.
”It is sad to note that a good number of students in this community who qualify yearly to enter higher institutions of learning are unable to do so because of their inability to pay the exorbitant fees charged. The end result is that these brilliant young people sit idle and end up engaging in social vices thereby setting the clock of community and national development backwards. It is against this background that the chief and sub chiefs and the assembly members launched the fund”, he said.
Naba Agoo called on residents of the area especially those out side the Region and those in the Diaspora to endeavour to contribute to the Fund , stressing that education was a powerful tool for development .
“Our community can only be well developed if all hands are put on deck by contributing effectively to support the many students who have good grades and cannot continue their education”
The Chief indicated that there was peace and unity among the people in the community and that they were going about their duties without any problem. He called on them not to engage in conflict which could only draw the development of the area backward.
“Because of the peaceful co-existence, many people in the Region and other regions are trooping into the area to buy land and settle. This is a very good development and must be maintained”, he stressed.
He however cautioned members of the community to be careful about the way and manner they disposed of their lands and said if care was not taken it would affect the future generation negatively.
The chief commended government for the numerous development projects it had brought to the community, especially the construction of roads and provision of electricity and appealed to government to continue to bring more development projects to the area.
Naba Agoo also called on the leaderships of political parties to ensure that the 2012 general election was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere so as to maintain the stability the country was enjoying.
