Erosion causing havoc in Nkoranza
Nkoranza (B/A), June 29, GNA – Mr Haruna Awudu, Assembly Member for Kransieso-Zongo at Nkoranza has appealed to Nkoranza South District Assembly to liaise with the Government to check soil erosion in Zongo communities.
Mr Awudu made the call when he led the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, to inspect parts of the Zongo community, to assess the extent of damage caused by erosion and also find ways to combat it.
He said some parts of the Zongo community is located on a slope and that gutters from the northern part of Nkoranza had created a big gully in the area leading to the erosion.
The Assemblyman said the gully continued to expand as the rains persists.
Mr Awudu therefore asked the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Non-Governmental Organisatiions (NGOs) to come to the aid of the people.
Mr Agyekum expressed concern about the damage the erosion was causing in some parts of the district, mentioning Nkoranza-Sessiman as another area where people were suffering the same plight.
He said it was unfortunate that a number of measures had been taken to control the problem, “yet all to no avail”.
The DCE however said he would contact the necessary building engineers and road experts for advice in relation to controlling the situation.
