VOLTA CAUCUS ‘EXPELS’ NPP MP
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta, Joseph Kwaku Nayan, says after several attempts to get into the Volta Regional Caucus in Parliament had failed, he had now pitched camp with the Eastern Regional Caucus in the House.
Nayan, the only NPP MP in the Volta Region, told newsmen at Kpasa that though he had been invited to caucus meetings on many occasions, he was told at the last hour to stay away, because they were going to discuss matters affecting the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, he was worried about the development, because such caucus meetings should serve as a platform for MPs in the region to push for the rapid development of the region.
He accused his colleagues from the Volta Region of promoting NDC affairs above the development of the region.
The NPP MP explained that because of the attitude of his colleagues, he was compelled to join the Eastern Caucus in Parliament, where he has been made Vice Chairman.
Admitting that the Volta Region was an NDC stronghold, Nayan nevertheless, said that he would still retain his seat, and that any attempt to push him aside would not work.
According to him, the Kufuor government left good footprints in the sands of the region, and that it was the good work of the NPP that would stand him well in 2012.
Mr. Nayan noted that he initiated a number of development projects in the region when the NPP was in power, and mentioned the extension of electricity, provision of potable water, a project which is still ongoing, a drainage system at Kpassa, the District capital, and Damanko, as well as the creation of the Nkwanta-North District.
The MP said he initiated a number of social intervention projects such as the provision of school infrastructure, support to health institutions in the constituency, and the award of scholarships to hundreds of the youth, through the use of his MPs Common Fund, to further their education to the tertiary level.
Mr. Nayan stressed that the people in the area would ever remain grateful to him and the NPP, and that the only way to show such appreciation, was to vote massively for him and the presidential candidate, Nana Akuffo Addo.
He pointed out that this time he would take the seat without any difficulty, because the NPP in the constituency was more united than ever, as compared to previous elections, where two or three candidates from the same party contested him
