Jake Cautions NPP Executives
THE NATIONAL Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, has issued a stern warning for all executives of the party to stop campaigning for any of the five individuals contesting for the party's August 7 flagbearership race.
He has therefore, on behalf of the leadership of the party, condemned a statement by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Ishmael Ashittey in Tema East Constituency, in which he stated that he and the constituency chairmen in the Greater Accra Region were in support of Nana Akufo-Addo in the upcoming congress of the party.
“Party executive officers are cautioned that their open declaration of support for one candidate or the other is completely unacceptable,” Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey stressed.
Whilst appreciating the fact that party officers may have their preferences, the National Chairman said “they have a responsibility to present an unbiased attitude to all candidates in the contest”, thereby condemning the public remarks made by Ishmael Ashittey, in which he also urged delegates to vote in a particular way and for a particular candidate.
The party national chairman believes that “such an unbiased posture will make it easier for party leadership to harness the support and energies of all party members behind the wining candidates after the congress.”
He stressed that “the foremost concern of all party executive officers, and indeed every party member should be NPP victory in the 2012 general elections and not the narrow victory of any of the aspirants.” He has thus admonished executives at all levels of the party to desist from declaring open support for any of the aspirants.
