GES should create special package for teachers who accept postings

Tafo Bososo (E/R), July 23, GNA - A retired educationist at Tafo Bososo, Mr Obuobi Agyare, has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to create some incentives that would motivate teachers to accept posting to deprived schools in rural areas.

"To achieve the laudable aims and objectives of the education reforms teachers must be enticed with some rewards for them to appreciate teaching and learning in the rural areas."

Mr Agyare said this at a Parent/Teacher Association meeting at Tafo Bososo.

He said some schools in the rural areas did not have the number of teachers needed and in some instances only one teacher could be found handling about two or three classes.

Mr Agyare appealed to the GES to set in motion some especial packages that would encourage teachers to accept transfers to the deprived schools.

He urged the GES to take a critical look at the situation where many of the professional teachers prefer to be in offices rather than being on the field.
