Culture of maintenance at Akrokerri College

Akrokerri College of Education is one of the oldest and best Teacher Training Colleges in Ghana. The College has endeared itself throughout these years as a Centre of Excellence and has produced many of the Teachers we have around. The buildings, roads and landscape of the college were so nice and carefully planned such that upon arrival on the campus, it was just breathtaking.

I recently attended a function at the college and to my uttermost surprise; the surroundings of the campus were in bad condition. The doors to the dormitories, windows and roads connecting the various dormitories (Castle and Liberation) were all in a deplorable state. Animals such as goats have virtually taken over the campus. These animals could be seen loitering haphazardly all over the campus. It was amazing to see such a great centre of excellence going down the drain.

These problems bring to bear as a country, our inability to refurbish deteriorating structures and the surroundings once they are in bad shape. I therefore urge the college authorities and other stakeholders such as the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area to respond swiftly to arrest the situation in order to uplift the image of this great institution of ours.
