UNILEVER introduces packed Annapurna Salt

UNLEVER Ghana Limited has introduced the canister pack of Annapurna salt in the country at a short ceremony in Accra last Friday.

The product is meant to leverage the success of the sachet pack of Annapurna with a higher quality product in attractive format.

Introducing the product, Manager, Popular Foods, Mr C.B. Asante said the introduction of the canister brand of the product is a confirmation borne out of the consumer's need to have a high quality and affordable storage unit as well as guarantee safety and hygiene to the consumer.

He said the product contains the right level of iodine and ensures good health and nutrition for the consumer.

Mr Asante said the company will embark on a promotional drive to educate consumers on iodine deficiency and stress that “ it will seek new ways of reinforcing the benefits and reasons for using the product.

The Head, Nutrition Unit of the Ministry of Health, Mrs Rosanna Agble said the use of iodised salt consumption in the country has almost doubled from 22 to 28 per cent in 1998 to 49 per cent in 2001.

She said Annapurna salt has been identified to be used in many villages in particular all the 10 regions of the country.

The United Nations International Children's Education Fund (UNICEF) Resident Director, Dr Ramesh Shretha said the initiative taken by Unilever to provide such product to meet the health needs of the people is very timely and encouraging.
