Tullow Ghana Limited has constructed physics, chemistry and biology laboratories for the Half-Assini Senior High School (SHS) in the Jomoro District of the Western Region.

In addition, the company equipped all the three laboratories to promote academic work in the school.

To facilitate laboratory work at all times, Tullow Ghana Limited provided a water tank to ensure constant supply of water.

The company also renovated the lavatory for the teaching staff to make it more befitting for the hard working teachers.

In total, Tullow Ghana Limited spent £250,000 on the three science laboratories and related projects.

In 2007, the company constructed a borehole in the school to help solve some problems in the country.

The science laboratory project by Tullow Ghana Limited is an acknowledgement of the importance of science and technology in today's world.

It is also a statement of Tullow Ghana Limited's desire to help develop the required set of knowledge, skills and competence that would support the emerging oil industry in Ghana.

It would help to promote science education in Half-Assini SHS to improve the academic performance of the students.

Dai Jones, President and General Manager of Tullow Ghana Limited, who visited the school to inspect the new laboratories, was accompanied by Mike Williams, Head of Well Engineering of Tullow Oil Plc.

Speaking to the staff and students during the visit, Mr. Dai Jones commended the Half-Assini Secondary School for  sharing their new laboratory facilities with two other secondary schools in the community.

As a result of their new lab, the school has become the destination of most students in the community.

Mr. Dai Jones reiterated that Tullow, which focuses on the exploration and production of oil and gas, was interested in strengthening science education in the areas where it operates.

“It is our desire and policy to ensure that Ghanaians control our operations in this country. We can only do that if we take the study of science and technology a little more serious at the secondary level through to the tertiary level.

“These facilities would not be the end of the company's support to the community since Tullow Ghana Limited will be in Ghana for a very long time,” Mr. Dai Jones added.
