Abeiku Quansah shares glory with Berekum Municipality
A member of the National Under-20 Soccer Team, Black Satellites, which won the 2009 FIFA World Cup Trophy in Egypt, Abeiku Quansah, in appreciation of the support and prayers offered by the people of the Berekum Municipality, has presented the brand-new Toyota saloon car donated by the Government of Ghana to him, to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Lord Stephen Oppong.
The car was presented on behalf of Abeiku Quansah by the family, including his mother, Madam Sarah Yamoah and Uncle, Mr. Kwadwo Freeman.
The Uncle, Mr. Kwadwo Freeman, commended the people of the Berekum municipality for their support and prayers that made Abeiku Quansah a formidable member of the World Cup winning team, and would wish for continuous support, as he now plies his football trade in the France elite league, with Nice Football Club.
He expressed Abeiku Quansah's willingness to always gain a call up in the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, to fulfill his fullest expectations as a true Ghanaian.
Receiving the car on behalf of the Municipality, Lord Stephen Oppong said Abeiku Quansah had distinguished himself as a disciplined, determined and God-fearing young man, who had become a shining example and inspiration to the young people in Berekum Municipality, of which those in sports and other areas could look up to, and aspire to achieve greater heights.
According to Mr. Lord Oppong, with perseverance, Abeiku Quansah has risen from a humble beginning to a position of honour, not only for himself and family, but the people of Berekum, Brong-Ahafo and Ghana as a whole.
He said in pursuance to the agenda of the government for sport development, the Berekum Municipal Assembly would use part of its Education Endowment Fund to develop sport talents in the youth of the municipality, so as to get more distinguished sports personalities like John Paintsil and Abeiku Quansah.
The MCE narrated that some of the money that would accrue to the fund, apart from the school fees of brilliant but needy students and apprenticeship fees of those who would want to learn a trade, shall be used to provide footballs, jerseys, boots and other sport kits for young people in the municipality, who may show an interest in sports, so that they would be motivated to work harder.
He expressed on behalf of the people of the municipality and the government, profound gratitude to the Satellites team as a whole, and Abeiku Quansah in particular, for doing Ghana proud by winning the FIFA Under-20 World cup.
Mr. Oppong wished and prayed that the Black Stars also do well in the ongoing African Nations Cup, “Angola 2010,” and the impending World Cup in South Africa.
