First Lady supports two health institutions

THE First Lady, Mrs Theresa Kufuor, has donated 10 hospital beds and two boxes of high dose Calcium drugs for children at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

She made the presentation on behalf of her organisation, known as the “Mother and Child Community Development Foundation”, which has been set up to assist women and children in deprived areas.

Making the presentation, Mrs Kufuor said although it is the responsibility of government to provide basic facilities to ensure affordable and accessible health care delivery, it behoves individuals and corporate organisations to support the government in this regard.

The First Lady recalled a television report which captured the pathetic situation of a mother who had just delivered a baby which was lying on the floor and appealed to all and sundry to support the rehabilitation of Korle-Bu. The Chief Executive of the hospital, Prof Frimpong-Boateng, who received the donation, thanked Mrs Kufuor and the foundation for the gesture.

He said that Korle-Bu is in a transition and gave the assurance that by a year the hospital would have been transformed to its former glory.

He said that the staff at the hospital are dedicated, committed and working as a team to ensure that the health facility lives up to expectation. Mrs Kufuor and her entourage later toured the maternity ward of the hospital.

In a related development, Mrs Kufuor made another presentation of five hospital beds to the Gomoa Nyanyano Health Facility in the Central Region.

She gave the assurance that her foundation will continue to assist the community and disclosed that it will build a pre-school facility for the area to enable children of school going-age to have a good foundation in education. The Chief of the area, Nana Obeng Wiabo V, recounted a number of projects that the community has been able to put up through the efforts of the people.

The chiefs and people of Gomoa Nyanyano enstooled Mrs Kufuor as the Nkosuohemaa of the area under the stool name Nana Aba Eson II.
