NYEP: ICT module launched
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Rashid Pelpuo, has officially launched the ICT module of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in Accra.
The program, organized by rLG Communications in collaboration with the Ministry for Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Communications was held on Friday at the International Conference Centre.
rLG Communications, formerly known as Roagam Links Company Limited is a privately owned Ghanaian Company specialized in training the youth in the application of Information Communications Technology (ICT) in repairs, servicing and assembling of mobile phones, computers, laptops and other electronic equipments nationwide.
Currently, the company has assembled and branded seven different phones namely r5, r7, r8, r9, r40, r60 and r72.
The features of these phones range from normal and basic to complex ones like TV, FM, and various multimedia features, with a price range of GHc31 to GHc120.
Addressing an audience made up of ministers of state, members of parliament, corporate bodies, the press as well as NYEP workers, the sports minister noted that the ICT module of the NYEP is in accordance with government's own policy to use ICT as a way of touching peoples' lives.
He said the initiative is to increase the quality of businesses in the country.
He added that government aims at employing 100,000 youths using the various NYEP modules, adding that the ICT mobile phone initiative will train an initial 6,000 people beginning April 2010.
Mr Pelpuo revealed that his ministry is working very hard to get an act of parliament that would support the program.
“We are working out a framework within which the program would work by parliament to source funds from the consolidated fund,” he revealed.
He urged the youth to take advantage of the programme to improve their lives.
“Take the training, be skilled, unearth your talents, be your own masters… and develop yourself,” ensuring that you affect the lives of others.
