NGO donates books to Library Board & schools… As it urges school authorities to revive 'Spelling `B`, Essay Writing competitions

Pastor Moses Kyeremeh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Glorious Victory Ministry (GVM), a Christian-centered non-governmental organisation ( NGO) working to improve the livelihood of the poor widows, orphans and the needy in the society, has called on school authorities to revive competitions like 'Spelling 'B”, Essay Writing and 'Review of books I have read'.

This, according to the Pastor, would motivate students to improve upon their English vocabulary and the habit of reading.

Pastor Kyeremeh made the call when the Glorious Victory Ministry presented assorted books to some Basic and Senior High schools in the Sunyani Municipality and the Sunyani-West District, as well as the Regional Library Board.

The beneficiary schools include the Sunyani Senior High School, Twene Amanfo Senior Technical/High School, Chiraa Senior High School, Odomaseman Senior High School, and the Sacred Heart Senior High School, while the Adantia M/A Primary/Junior High and Methodist Model Primary/JHS in Sunyani, also had their share.

The CEO of Glorious Victory Ministry disclosed that the books were solicited from the 'Kind Heart Foundation' based in the United States of America, through the effort of Madam Aseye Adiepena, who is the Foundation's representative in Ghana.

According to Pastor Kyeremeh, the GVM is to complement the efforts of other religious organisations, the government and quasi-government agencies, to help provide some basic needs to people in deprived communities in the rural areas.

He said the GVM was determined to change the mindset of people in the rural areas, especially the poor amongst them, to realise the fact that they were born to be victorious, and not losers.

Pastor Kyeremeh explained that his organisation would synthesise the minds of the poor in the rural communities, to know that God has a special purpose for each person in life, and that the purpose must be realised in one's life time.

He added that the vision of the GVM was to draw people to Jesus Christ, by demonstrating God's love for mankind, adding that it has been a desire to help in building up the standard of education in the rural communities, so that the gospel can easily be sent to the people without any difficulty.

According to Pastor Kyeremeh, if indeed the nation was to attain the middle income status by 2012, then education in general, ought to be taken seriously, citing that the Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE) results in the country, attest to the fact that the schools are trying their best, however with a little push from NGOs, there would be marked improvement in the educational standard.

He said it was in view of improving the educational standards that the GVM had taken it upon itself to do a little, by way of donating the books to the schools, which amounted to GH¢1,400.

Pastor Kyeremeh expressed the hope that improving the standard of education in the rural communities, would check the drift of rural population to the urban areas, adding that gospel literature and other books would be distributed to the people when available.

He said the GVM's position was that every child of school-going age, should be encouraged to go to school, as reading and understanding what is read, is a very important aspect of education, therefore, the organisation intends to encourage reading in schools, by giving out prizes to deserving students.

He encouraged the teachers concerned to make good use of the books, to help both teachers and pupils achieve their academic goals.

Mr. Anthony Asuman, Assistant Headmaster of the Twene Amanfo Senior High/Technical, on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the GVM for the support, and gave the assurance that the books would be used as expected.
